My wifes friend dives in Florida... they kill any and all Lionfish they find... She said this was the first one she netted..

 

Interesting that one of the main arguments AGAINST keeping lion fish has always been tat they are always wild caught as they don't seem to reproduce in captivity, Guess this isn't the case anymore, at least not for this species!

 

This is interesting in itself because I just got done watching the documentary from BBC named Oceans and they actually do mention that the lionfish is taking over the Caribbeans. I would highly recommend anyone to watch that documentary too!

 

They do not reproduce in captivity. Someone released them from their tank & they are now reproducing like crazy in the Atlantic.

Many people have said they are very very good to eat.

All the local diver masters in the caribean & keys go by "kill on sight" if they see them.

The biggest problem is that the local fish do not recognize them as a predator. The lions are wiping out small foods like pepp shrimp such.
