I think 1 power head would suffice for a 15gal tankk. I would probably forgo the skimmer also and go with like a 1-2 gal a week water change. An ATO is a good bet though, its just so much easier and consistent on keeping your water level and salinity. You mentioned a par 38 bulb, give that a shot. I dont have any experience to share with you on them but I have read articles and for the tank you are looking to do, they may work just fine.

Edit to add. get a good bulb, not all bulbs are created equal.

Don't worry about asking questions. That's what this site is here for.

A sump is always a good thing.

    • Provides more water volume.
    • Keeps the water level stable in the display tank
    • Gives you a place to put unsightly equipment (like heaters)

If you have a feasible way to attach a sump to it, I'd strongly recommend it. Just beware of external overflows. They tend to cause floods.

  4. nano, glad you jumped on board! there is a wealth of knowledge here at a keystrokes disposaL!

one thing i have found usefull to help me is i started a journal to track my testing and changes which is helping my ecosystem in my tank with me being a busy guy i always have something on my plate and recalling an alk test from last week becomes interesting.

you have my # too so dont be afraid to text if needed and theres people on here all hours of the night so someone will answer your questions as they arise. patience is key, and hope to see you at fall fest!

I'm really happy with what people have been teaching me and now I know that patience is the #1 thing to having a successful reef.
