activated carbon and HLLE, again.

    Yeah, they had a big write up of the study in the last issue (I think) of Coral magazine........

    Yeah I think this study was in correlation with that one. confirming they found the same results.

    Has anyone read the full article? You can't read it online without a subscription. If memory serves me correctly they didn't rinse the carbon thoroughly or something like that. I know that whenever I have used carbon I have rinsed the snot out of it, but when it runs clear then you rub it a little more it just keeps flowing carbon dust out, so it's pretty much impossible to get it dust free, unless I just haven't tried very many different brands or types. I just don't use it anyways though so what do I know.

    It will be interesting to see where this goes. I still think a bigger study is warranted, but like most things with our industry, who's going to pay for it?

    Yes Floyd I read it and one of the thoughts is that the carbon dust is getting stuck in those cell areas causing the erosion. I would assume the same could be said about carbon that gets too much flow and tumbles breaking apart entering our system.

    not correlated with the other study, independent. But the results are corroborative. I'm still going to use carbon, just buy the high quality stuff and rinse it well, there are too many benefits to do away with GAC, IMO.
