 whats the best way to get rid of these things there spreading all over my tank !!!! calk. them i herd but is this safe for my tank ?

 

The only way I was able to fully get them off of rocks was to cut the rock below the base of the shroom with bone cutters.

 

I just want to make sure you know it's not caulk, use kalk paste. It's a term described using pure calcium powder, such as pickling lime, to make a thick paste to squirt on the host to kill. You could try it to kill mushrooms, but I doubt it will kill them. Usually people only use the kalk paste when getting rid of aiptasia and other pest anemones.

Bill's suggestion of cutting them off the rock completely is about the only thing you can do, other than drying the rock out and re-curing it.

Never can be too sure! I know a few people who got confused by suggestions and lost thousands in livestock.

You never can do too much research on any suggestions people give you. Always double check their info.

Also, I never actually answered your question "but is this safe for my tank ?" It is, but be careful. The kalk paste will raise your PH and affect your calcium/alkalinity levels. It's "safe" in small amounts, just don't go overboard.

well i have over 30 big red one on one big rock .. if i could find someone with a big rock to switch i would, lol.

 

I had reds take over my tank a few years ago. thinking i may of had 500 or more. traded them off then ended up having a heater break and nuke my tank. so that took care of them.

yep i was going to just take the rock out and let them dry up but would like to see them go intp a new tank that needs some color thats all.

yea i could.Sure i could get $5 bucks for atleast 2 of them .. just have to find out how to frag them not sure on them...

 

with my luck i wouldnt sell any and then have them all over my tank after fragging them lol.

 

I had the same issue with mushrooms in my first tank. In my case, kalk wouldn't kill them. They were too tough. I ended up taking all the live rock out, and throwing it on my patio to percolate for a year.

 

Where do you live, Big "D"? I would buy some red mushrooms. I don't know how fond you are of your big rock but when I had too many recordias and mushrooms taking over a rock I just put the rock on my sidewalk and took a cold chisel to it to break it up. Quickly as possible of course with a bucket of aquarium water standing by. Didn't seem to hurt them at all. I was afraid trying to razor blade them off of the rock might damage them too much.

Trust me...it's very difficult to damage them.
