Pods

I have some chaeto in my refuge and I see those little things swimming all over the place. But I never, ever see them in my display tank. I have a ton of live rock in there too.....am I missing something? Is there a place they all hide? Sometimes I flashlight the tank at night when I'm sleepwalking but I never seem to see them.

 

I am assuming you are talking about Isopods, the big suckers.

I dont see them in my display either, but I know they are there because sometimes I see their shell floating around after they molt.

I have seen them up to 1/2 long in my fuge.

I was actually talking about copeopods. I'm kinda new to all this and didn't really know about the isopods. I'll look that up next.

 

Good Lord. I just saw those isopods. You think I have those things in my tank? Yikes.

probably, if not trade some cheate with someone that does. They are great for your tank.

 

My cheateo is infested with SOMETHING, I know that. They are small, a couple millimeters at the most. They swim around like crazy giant sperm cells.

Ok cool. Isopods...check. You think I have copepods then? Think I will be cool getting a mandarin?

 

Um, how long has your tank been set up?

Copepods are incredibly small, almost like a speck of dust. Mandarins need a TON of them.

The good rule of thumb to keep a mandarin healthy is set up at least 6 months & have a refugium. If you fit both those you should be ok.

I've been set up for 18 months. I guess if the copepods are THAT small, well, I haven't been looking hard enough. I'm going to quit worrying about it. Sounds like I should be cool.

 

i have several shells and barnicals in my tank and when ever i shine a flashlight(day or night) i see my copepods swimming around like mad inside the shells or barnicals! most amphipods or isopods can be seen easily with the naked eye and seem to crawl around but copepods seem to swim in the masses in dimmly lit areas of my tank,
