lighting ?????

    i have a mixed reef 90gal have two 250 watt mh 4 t5ho just got a hang kit for my light im not sure how far away from the tank i should hang it any ideas would be great. right now its on 2x4s and the legs that came with the light so its about 8in from the top

    In my opinion that depends on what is where for coral in the tank. The main factor is probably coral placement, that is a fairly deep tank, so you will have to find a balance between enough light at the bottom and not too much at the highest point that you have coral.

    ya thats what i thought but i just wanted to here what others did most of the sps is middle to top softies all over lps middle to bottom dont have much for sps do have 2 clams there on the bottom

    I run 2 150watt Mh and have sps in all spots of my tank and they do very well. I did just recently upgrade my lights to include 4 t5 bulbs but even before the lights I had did wonderful

    I think about 8-12" from the top of the water is about average. I think on DFS divers den they actually tell you what color bulb and how far from the water the light is held for each specific coral. That may give you some reference.
