This morning before I turned on the lights I saw what looked like a leg of a brittle starfish.  It was about 2 inches reaching out of a whole in my rock.  What the heck is this thing?  I pulled the rock out and tried with no luck seeing it with a flashlight.  I would have kept the big rock out if my acan colony wasnt on it.  My guess its a worm of some kind???  I think it was trying to eat a snail.  And BTW it wasnt a brittle starfish.

Probably a bristle worm. They are good for your tank as they come out at night and scavenge for leftovers and detritus.

Dont touch them though, they pack a powerfull sting.

Ya, I have seen them up to foot long. They are pink when they are smaller.

Mine started out small and have since gotten a lot bigger! Can you have too many?

I'll bet it was the leg of a mini brittle star. We have hundreds in our tank and they often have just one leg reaching out of the rock (I assume feeding?). Here is a pic of what they look like (they are actually pretty small )
